Dental Implants

Implants are a state-of-the-art, unique method of replacing missing teeth with fixed teeth that are the closest thing to your own natural teeth — just like you used to have.

Implants from Dental Implant & Cosmetic, P.C. in Yorktown Heights, NY are a predictable solution for denture problems and for replacing missing teeth. After the initial healing time, you may forget you have implants! No one else will know you have implants unless you tell them. However, we have found that our New York patients are so happy with their implants that they are excited to tell their friends and family about them!

Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved they can smile with confidence. More and more patients are turning to dental implants in Yorktown Heights, and Westchester New York as a better alternative to dentures and dental bridges.

The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts, which are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. They are surgically placed into the jawbone. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts are then attached to the implant, which protrude through the gums. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

Make Dr. Zaky your choice for dental implants in New York and give yourself the smile makeover you deserve!

Who Performs Implant Surgery?

Implant surgery should be performed by a special dentist who has had extensive training in implants. Dr. Zaky, is a specialist who has studied and performed implants for over eighteen years. Because of his strong background in implant surgery, you will feel confident and relaxed in Dr. Zaky's care.

The Surgical Procedure

For some patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your dentist is forming new replacement teeth.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Dr. Zaky will uncover the implants and attach small posts, which will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. These posts protrude through the gums. When the artificial teeth are placed these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.

Surgical Advances

Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Zaky is able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before placing artificial teeth on them. There are even situations where the implants can be placed at the same time as a tooth extraction further minimizing the number of surgical procedures. Advances in dental implant technology have made it possible in select cases, to extract teeth, and place implants with crowns at one visit. This process, called "immediate loading" greatly simplifies the surgical process.

Who actually performs the implant placement?

Usually Implants are placed by one specialist then the teeth "caps or dentures" are placed over them by another dentist, but some dentists perform both procedures like Dr. Zaky. He is a specialist who had university and hospital training on both Surgical and restorative phases of implants with over 20 years of Implant clinical practice and he is an associate clinical professor teaching Implants at New York University.

It's Safe and Successful!

Implants are made of titanium, an FDA approved, very safe metal for use within your body. Titanium has been used in other parts of the body for many years by bone surgeons. Implants have an excellent track record. They have been highly successful for over twenty years of clinical research and use in people.

It's Simple and Affordable!

Implant procedures are performed by inserting an anchor, then attaching an abutment, and finally creating and attaching your new teeth securely in place. Local anesthesia, gas, sedatives, tranquilizers, and other relaxation methods are available to you during these processes. No hospitalization and no general anesthesia is needed! With Sedation you will not feel any pain and you may have little or no memory of treatment.

Our quality is high but our prices are not - our fees are reasonable. We have comfortable, extended payment plans with no interest. Many debit and credit cards are accepted. Many medical and dental insurance plans cover part of the cost. It's tax deductible. For details on this, you should check with your accountant.

What types of prostheses are available?

A single prosthesis (crown) is used to replace one missing tooth – each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending upon which type of complete prosthesis (removable or fixed) is recommended. A removable prosthesis (over denture) attaches to a bar or ball in socket attachments, whereas a fixed one is permanent and removable only by the dentist.

Dr. Zaky performs in-office implant surgery, inpatient hospital implant surgery is for patients who have special medical or anesthetic needs or for those who need extensive bone grafting from the jaw, hip or tibia.

Why dental implants?

Once you learn about dental implants, you finally realize there is a way to improve your life. When you lose several teeth – whether it's a new situation or something you have lived with for years – chances are you have never become fully accustomed to losing such a vital part of yourself.

Dental implants can be your doorway to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind.

A Swedish scientist and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, developed this concept for oral rehabilitation more than thirty-five years ago. With his pioneering research, Dr. Branemark opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for millions of individuals facing the frustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.

Why would you select dental implants over more traditional types of restorations?

There are several reasons: Why sacrifice the structure of surrounding good teeth to bridge a space? In addition, removing a denture or a "partial" at night may be inconvenient, not to mention that dentures that slip can be uncomfortable and rather embarrassing.

Are you a candidate for implants?

If you are considering implants, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If you mouth is not ideal for implants, ways of improving outcome, such as bone grafting, may be recommended.

What type of anesthesia is used?

The majority of dental implants and bone graft can be performed in the office under local anesthesia, with or without Sedation.

Do Implants need special care?

Once the implants are in place, they will serve you well for many years if you take care of them and keep your mouth healthy. This means taking the time for good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) and keeping regular appointments with your dental specialists.
